Food, drinks, and music. All three items are very interesting to most people. What happens when all three are found in a wide open green space? A community comes together for the 8th Annual Jazz in the Park! This community event has brought a unity to the O’Fallon Park area and surrounding neighborhoods that is based on positivity and encouragement. Local jazz bands come every Wednesday to perform. Since July 12th, bands have performing right in the heart of the O’Fallon Park and recreation center. Boasting numerous trails and children’s play area, O’Fallon Park is a fantastic place to bring people in the community together. People are able to bring their own food and beverages or purchase ready-made products from local stands. The music flows and before long different individuals are up dance along to the songs for the evening. Moms, dads, grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts, and uncles are all celebrating summertime. This is what community looks like. This is how we keep community together and uplifted. Surrounding ourselves with positive vibes, and allowing our younger generations the view of happiness gives them hope for their future. Creating and sponsoring events that draw out happiness and hope demonstrates what Alderman French and North Campus are all about. One new North Campus staff member, Brittany Forrest, had a blast listening to songs she grew up with. She and another coworker ended up on the dance floor moving to the sounds of Cupid Shuffle and The Wobble. From July 12th until now these various artists have played: Foundation Band, Lamont Hadley, Jeff Hardin, Marty Abdullah, Sounds of Gospel, Lamar Harris, Will Robinson & The Soul Experience. Tonight The Legendary Melvin Turnage Band featuring Tonya Pointer will be playing a mix of songs to set the mood for a great evening of fun and entertainment.
